This test procedure is used to determine the steady-state directional control response of vehicles by measuring steady-state cornering behavior. Due to the wide range of operational conditions to which a vehicle can be subjected, the results of this testing do not provide a complete description of a vehicle's total dynamic behavior; in particular, the procedure does not test the vehicle's response during transient maneuvers. To fully assess a vehicle's total dynamic behavior, it would be necessary to conduct other test procedures in order to evaluate the vehicle's performance as a whole.
The extent of instrumentation and the required accuracy of the measurement will be dependent on the goals of the personnel conducting the test. If it is desired simply to determine the general performance characteristics of a vehicle, then this test can be conducted with minimal instrumentation and test item preparation.
Rationale
The Noise, Vibration, and Harshness Committee which owned this report has become inactivated and the technical expertise for the subject report within the Truck-Bus Council is not available at this time. This standard has been transferred to the Total Vehicle Steering Committee to stabilize the standard.
The Truck and Bus Total Vehicle Steering Committee and its committees have the responsibility to initiate, develop, review and approve the SAE Technical Reports (Standards, Recommended Practices, and Information Reports) related to medium and heavy duty trucks and buses with GVWRs greater than 10,000 lbs., and their unique components and accessories. Vehicles to be addressed include vans, utility vehicles, trucks, truck tractor combinations, trailers and buses. This is to be done on behalf of the SAE Truck-Bus Council, the Technical Standards Board, and to serve the best interests of the public. The Total Vehicle Steering Committee provides the support, review, and approval of the work of its committees. The committees organized under the Truck and Bus Total Vehicle Steering Committee are the following: Aerodynamics and Fuel Economy, Corrosion, Tire, and Tire Pressure Management Systems.
* Redlines comparisons are available for those standards
listed in the Revision History that contain a radio button. A
redline comparison of the current version against a revision is
accomplished by selecting the radio button next to the standard and
then selecting 'compare'. At this time, Redline versions only exist
for some AMS standards. SAE will continue to add redline versioning
with ongoing updates to SAE MOBILUS.

SAE MOBILUS® Search Tips
Please note: All terms not contained within quotes, will be evaluated using the OR operator. This means that your search results will contain all results that contain ANY of the entered terms.

Using the question mark, ( ? ) allows you to search for a word with a single character wildcard. For example, searching for t?re would match both tire and tyre
Using Quotes
