This standard provides a revision to the technical content of the ANSI/SAE Z26.1-1996 Glazing Standard that harmonizes with and adopts changes in both United States and international automotive safety glazing standards that have been adopted or proposed at the time of this publication. This is a comprehensive standard including glass and plastic glazing materials, with allowable installation locations, created as an optimum set of requirements reflecting the testing and performance specifications of the major international standards for safety glazing materials. This standard organizes methods and requirements according to the traditional style of an American National Standard. This style is familiar to safety glazing manufacturers, and provides ease of use with straightforward language. Finally, it includes definitions based on the best understanding of glazing terms and provides definitions not found in other standards.
