- This SAE Recommended Practice applies to engine coolant concentrate, low silicate ethylene glycol base, for use in cooling systems of heavy-duty engines. An initial charge of supplemental coolant additive (SCA) is required when using this type of coolant concentrate.

- Under the SAE/ASTM MOU, the issue of the specifications for coolant was discussed. Since most of the work on specifications was being carried out in ASTM and the SAE documents followed, it was decided to cancel J1941. Refer to ASTM D 4985 and D 6210 for specifications for coolants for heavy duty engines.
