- This SAE Standard establishes uniform test procedures for the defrosting systems of off-road, self-propelled work machines used in construction, general purpose industrial, agricultural, and forestry machinery as referenced in table one of this document. It includes tests that can be conducted with uniform test equipment in commercially available laboratory facilities, as well as in an appropriate outdoor environment.

- SAE J1535 was revised to include additional machine types, to use consistent SAE terminology and definitions, and to provide clarity to the intent of specific paragraphs.Figure 1 was added to provide a visual aid in explaining types of ice that can be observed during test and assist in evaluation of the test results.Specific measurement accuracy levels were revised / added.Machine load requirement in test conditions was revised.Test record form was added.
