- This report sets forth the general philosophy and basic design guidance for using aircraft equipment (hardware and/or software) in training devices. It specifies unique simulator functions that shall be supported by this equipment. A goal of this report is to promote common understanding between aviation and simulation groups for the use of aircraft equipment in training devices. Use of this document is recommended for any new or derivative aircraft or retrofit of a system to an existing aircraft, where aircraft hardware or software may be used in the associated training device. Airframe manufacturers and aircraft equipment designers are encouraged to take advantage of this guidance information, starting in the earliest phases in the design of aircraft equipment by defining requirements to be compliant with the simulator functions capabilities; i.e., to be compliant with this report. Compliance can be most readily assured if provided for in the proposal stage between the aircraft manufacturer and the aircraft equipment supplier.
