Nondestructive tests are those tests which detect factors related to the serviceability or quality of a part or material without limiting its usefulness. Material defects such as surface cracks, laps, pits, internal inclusions, bursts, shrink, seam, hot tears, and composition analysis can be detected. Sometimes their dimensions and exact location can be determined. Such tests can usually be made rapidly. Processing results such as hardness, case depth, wall thickness, ductility, decarburization, cracks, apparent tensile strength, grain size, and lack of weld penetration or fusion may be detectable and measurable. Service results such as corrosion and fatigue cracking may be detected and measured by nondestructive test methods. In many cases, imperfections can be automatically detected so that parts or materials can be classified. This SAE Standard prescribes the procedure for making hardenability tests and recording results on shallow and medium hardening steels, but not deep hardening steels that will normally air harden. Included are procedures using the 25 mm (1 in) standard hardenability end-quench specimen for both medium and shallow hardening steels and subsize method for bars less than 32 mm (1-1/4 in) in diameter. Methods for determining case hardenability of carburized steels are given in SAE J1975. Any hardenability test made under other conditions than those given in this document will not be deemed standard and will be subject to agreement between supplier and user. Whenever check tests are made, all laboratories concerned must arrange to use the same alternate procedure with reference to test specimen and method of grinding for hardness testing. A-20C Interior Lighting
The scope of this SAE Recommended Practice is to establish uniform test procedures for passenger cars, to determine whether the system is defined as a defroster or defogger, and to establish minimum performance requirements for each system. A defroster for purposes of this practice is a system which will remove moisture and/or frost from the interior surface of the backlight at −18 °C. A defogger is a system which will remove moisture and/or fog from the interior surface of the backlight at 4 °C. The test procedure is intended to simulate actual conditions by utilizing either a cold room with an appropriate device to introduce air flow over the backlight or a sufficiently large wind tunnel with ambient temperature control. The test procedure and the minimum performance requirements are based on currently available engineering data.

This SAE Information Report describes a concept of operations (CONOPS) for a Cooperative Driving Automation (CDA) Feature for infrastructure-based prescriptive cooperative merge. This work focuses on a Class D (Prescriptive; refer to J3216) CDA infrastructure-based cooperative merge Feature, supported by Class A (Status-Sharing) or Class C (Agreement-Seeking) messages among the merging cooperative automated driving system-operated vehicles (C-ADS-equipped vehicles). This document also provides a test procedure to evaluate this CDA Feature, which is suitable for proof-of-concept testing in both virtual and test track settings.
Cooperative Driving Automation(CDA) Committee
This SAE Recommended Practice provides general guidelines for measuring the splash and spray produced by vehicles operating over wet pavements. The guidelines describe both the video digitizing and the laser methods of analysis. The video-digitizing method uses video images and contrast measurements between black and white checkerboards when a spray cloud is superimposed on them as a means of measuring the obscuring spray. The laser method uses laser transmittance through the spray cloud as the means of measurement. It is left to the users of this practice to decide which method is best suited to their needs. There is no implied relationship between these two methods, although it is expected that the ranking of relative spray reduction between test vehicle configurations would be approximately the same. This SAE Standard is equivalent to ISO 362-1:2015 and specifies an engineering method for measuring the noise emitted by road vehicles of categories M and N under typical urban traffic conditions. It excludes vehicles of category L1, L2, L3, L4, and L5. The specifications are intended to reproduce the level of noise generated by the principal noise sources during normal driving in urban traffic. The method is designed to meet the requirements of simplicity as far as they are consistent with reproducibility of results under the operating conditions of the vehicle. The test method requires an acoustical environment that is obtained only in an extensive open space. Such conditions are usually provided for during: Measurements of vehicles for regulatory certification and/or type approval Measurements at the manufacturing stage Measurements at official testing stations Annex A provides background information on the use of this standard consistent with the intent.
