The primary objective of this recommended practice is to confirm that vehicles can communicate a minimum set of information in accordance with diagnostic test services specified in SAE J1979-2, or the equivalent ISO 14229-1:2013 (Ed. 2) and SAE J1979-3 documents. A successful result using the SAE J1699-5 Automotive Alliance for Innovation (AAI) software for OBD-II testing indicates that the main aspects of UDS communication have been examined, but it does not provide assurance of complete compliance with all aspects of SAE J1979-2 or SAE J1979-3. SAE J1699-5 tests run with a SAE J2534 device hardware and API that is not fully compliant will result in a test failure. This specification takes precedence over all conflicts in the documents cited in this section.

This SAE Recommended Practice was developed primarily for gasoline-powered passenger car and truck applications to interface vapor recovery systems, but it may be used in diesel, marine, industrial, and similar applications where a nozzle is required for filling. The zones cover nozzle spout access and handle clearance to a refilling port. In addition, this recommended practice includes a design window for nozzle manufacturers to develop with.
This specification, in conjunction with the general requirements for steel heat treatment covered in AMS2759, establishes the requirements for heat treatment of precipitation-hardening corrosion-resistant, maraging, and secondary hardening steel parts. Parts are defined in AMS2759. Parts made from steels other than those specified in this specification may be heat treated in accordance with the applicable requirements herein using processing temperatures, times, and other parameters recommended by the material producer unless otherwise specified by the cognizant engineering organization. General ordering instructions are specified in AMS2759.
This document is intended to establish a procedure to certify AD fallback test driver skill levels as an endorsement to SAE J3300 foundational level certification. The SAE J3300/3 endorsement can be used by the individual driver to qualify their skills as a test driver of vehicles with automated driving features. The SAE J3300/3 endorsement levels may also be used by test facilities or other organizations when seeking test or professional drivers with these skills. This document provides directions for obtaining the endorsement, including associated AD fallback test driving skill examination requirements, through SAE J3300-certified Examiners (refer to SAE J3300 for definition). Endorsement registration and associated records are administered through Probitas Authentication®. Probitas Authentication® is the current Independent Program Administrator for the SAE J3300 series. This document is a supplement to SAE J3300, providing information specific to the AD fallback test driver skill
The purpose of this SAE Aerospace Recommended Practice (ARP) is to provide the sample selection and endurance time test procedures for SAE Type II, III, and IV aircraft deicing/anti-icing fluids, required for the generation of endurance time data of acceptable quality for review by the SAE G-12 Holdover Time Committee. The related standard ARP5718 provides the process by which endurance time data is converted to holdover times for publication by regulators and subsequent use by aircraft operators.
This specification covers a corrosion- and heat-resistant steel in the form of bars, forgings, and forging stock.
This SAE Aerospace Information Report (AIR) covers the general requirements for, and the listing of, manufacturers’ identification markings, names, symbols or trademarks, and CAGE codes that appear on electrical and electronic wiring devices and accessories as required by individual product specifications. Supplier markings from previous submitted listings are maintained for component traceability.
This specification covers procedures and requirements for peening of metal parts with portable, bonded-shot, rotary flap assemblies in accordance with AS2592. The principles of rotary flap peening are similar to conventional shot peening, except conversion of arc height values using the magnetic test Almen strip holder is required for intensity determination.
This specification covers the requirements for thermal spray coatings applied using the high velocity oxygen fuel (HVOF) combustion process. This specification is not intended to be used for duplex coatings, i.e., the application of the coating over a previously applied coating.
This procedure measures the resistance to radiant heat flow of insulating materials in sleeve, tubing, or tape (collectively referred to as “sleeve”) form. The sleeve’s effectiveness (SE) is determined by measuring the difference in surface temperature of a flat black, single-diameter ceramic cylinder with and without the standard diameter sleeve at the specified temperature, position, and distance from the radiant heat source.
This specification covers the engineering requirements for a treatment to provide enhanced corrosion resistance to sheet metal parts, such as brackets, spacers, and washers, fabricated from martensitic Corrosion-resistant steels, usually AMS 5504 or AMS 5508 and having hardness not higher than 40 HRC, or ferritic corrosion-resistant steels, usually AMS 5506. The treatment is not recommended for use on parts subject to impact in service.
This specification covers an aluminum alloy in the form of sheet clad on both sides with a different aluminum alloy.
This SAE Standard defines the basic structural elements, and guidance on compilation and management, for a software supportability program. Software supportability considerations include initial design influence and through-life support embracing the operational use, post-delivery modification, and logistics management of software. This document requires that the processes of design, development, selection, and production of software include software supportability considerations, as relevant to particular project needs.
This interface standard applies to fuzes used in airborne weapons that use a 3-in fuze well. It defines: Physical envelope of the fuze well at the interface with the fuze. Load bearing surfaces of the fuze well. Physical envelope of the fuze and its connector. Mechanical features (e.g., clocking feature). Connector type, size, location and orientation. Retaining ring and its mechanical features (e.g., thread, tool interface). Physical envelope of the retaining ring at the interface with the fuze. Physical space available for installation tools. Torque that the installation tool shall be capable of providing. This standard does not address: Materials used or their properties. Protective finish. Physical environment of the weapon. Explosive interface or features (e.g., insensitive munitions (IM) mitigation). Charging tube. Torque on the retaining ring or loads on the load bearing surfaces. Each fuze and weapon combination should be evaluated to ensure that the weapon system will satisfy
The purpose of this SAE Standard is to provide equipment specifications for CFC-12 (R-12) recovery for return to a refrigerant reclamation facility that will process it to the appropriate ARI Standard (Air Conditioning and Refrigerant Institute) or allow for recycling of the recovered refrigerant in equipment that is certified to meet the requirements of SAE J1991. Under the existing rule, the U.S. EPA requires refrigerant removed from a mobile air-conditioning (A/C) system using recovery equipment certified to meet SAE J2209 can only be recycled using equipment meeting SAE J1991 that is owned by the same company or individual. It is not acceptable that the refrigerant removed from a mobile A/C system, with this equipment, be directly returned to a mobile A/C system. This information applies to equipment used to service automobiles, light trucks, and other vehicles with similar CFC-12 (R-12) systems.
The purpose of this SAE Standard is to define a common set of thermodynamic test conditions to evaluate internal heat exchangers for use with R-134a and R-1234yf refrigerants in mobile air-conditioning systems. This SAE Standard can be used to test actual vehicle IHX designs or standardized IHX samples, which can be used for comparison based on a common length and shape.
The scope of this SAE Information Report is to provide general information relative to the nature and use of infrared techniques for nondestructive testing. The document is not intended to provide detailed technical information, but will serve as an introduction to the theory and capabilities of infrared testing and as a guide to more extensive references.
This SAE Standard applies to electronic probe-type leak detectors used to service motor vehicle passenger compartment air-conditioning systems. This document does not address any safety issues concerning their design or use.
