If a “function-call application program interface” (API) is to be used, then ARP4868 and ARP5571 are recommended as alternatives to that described in this document. When it is agreed between the program user and supplier that a particular program shall be supplied in Fortran, this document shall be used in conjunction with AS681 for steady-state and transient programs. This document also describes how to take advantage of the Fortran CHARACTER storage to extend the information interface between the calling program and the engine subroutine.

Hydraulic systems are used on marine vehicles for steering, vehicle control, and utility services. System components that generate and transmit noise are of concern. This SAE Information Report (a) addresses noise requirements which may apply to the hydraulic systems of ships and submersibles, and (b) identifies noise sources and techniques which may be used to reduce system noise. Noise of power sources (e.g., electric motors) and end items (e.g., steering linkages) is beyond the scope of this document.

Included are recommendations for test sample size, and format for data presentation/reporting.

This SAE Standard covers the mechanical and material requirements for three grades of steel nuts suitable for use in automotive and related engineering applications, in sizes 1/4 to 1-1/2 inches, inclusive, and with dimensions conforming with the requirements of the latest issue of SAE J482 or ASME B18.2.2, except for machine screw nuts which are not covered in this standard. This document does not include limits for surface discontinuities. Where usage requires such control, limits may be specified separately. For sizes 1/4 through 1 inch, this may be done by the statement: “Surface discontinuities shall not exceed the limits specified in ASTM F812/F812M.”

This document has not changed other than to put it into the new SAE Technical Standards Board Format This SAE Standard covers the most commonly used magnesium alloys suitable for casting by the various commercial processes. The chemical composition limits and minimum mechanical properties are shown. Over the years, magnesium alloys have been identified by many numbering systems, as shown in Table 1. Presently, SAE is recommending the use of the use of the UNS numbering system to identify those materials. Other equally important characteristics such as surface finish and dimensional tolerances are not covered in this standard.

This standard defines FOD Prevention Program requirements for organizations that design, develop, and provide aviation, space, and defense products and services; and by organizations providing post-delivery support, including the provision of maintenance, spare parts, or materials for their own products and services. It is emphasized that the requirements specified in this standard are complementary (not alternative) to customer, and applicable statutory and regulatory requirements. Should there be a conflict between the requirements of this standard and applicable statutory or regulatory requirements, the latter shall take precedence.

This Aerospace Information Report (AIR) describes the use of FTIR analyzers for measurements of gaseous emissions from aircraft gas turbine engines and combustion rigs. The use of FTIR analyzers can be demonstrated as a suitable and cost-effective equivalent to NDIR and chemiluminescence analyzers as prescribed in ARP1256 for the measurement of CO, CO2, NO, and NO2, where NOx is closely approximated by the sum of NO and NO2 concentrations. FTIR analyzers may be proven suitable for equivalency of analyzers used in current emission testing. Additionally, FTIR analyzers have potential for equivalent measurements of “total” hydrocarbon (THC) as currently defined in ARP1256.

SAE J515 covers the specification for hydraulic O-ring material and properties and sizes applicable to face seal fittings, metric and inch stud ends, and four-bolt flange fittings. The standard includes a size code to allow industry and government agencies to order O-rings with a coded part number.
Hydraulic Tube Fittings Committee
The SAE J526 Standard covers electric-resistance welded single-wall low-carbon steel pressure tubing intended for general automotive, refrigeration, hydraulic, and other similar applications requiring tubing of a quality suitable for bending, flaring, beading, forming, and brazing. Material produced to this specification is not intended to be used for single flare applications due to the potential leak path that would be caused by the ID weld bead or scarfed region. Assumption of risks when using this material for single flare applications shall be defined by agreement between the producer and tube purchaser. The material produced to this specification is intended to service pressure applications where severe forming and bending is not required. As this material may exhibit mechanical properties that reduce some desired forming characteristics versus SAE J356, the severity of the forming requirements of the finished assembly should be considered when utilizing material produced to this
Metallic Tubing Committee
This SAE Information Report provides a list of those SAE steels which, because of decreased usage, have been deleted from the standard SAE Handbook listings. Included are alloy steels from SAE J778 deleted since 1936, carbon steels from SAE J118 deleted since 1952, and all EX-steels deleted from SAE J1081. Information concerning SAE steels prior to these dates may be obtained from the SAE office on request. With the issuance of this report, SAE J778, Formerly Standard SAE Alloy Steels, and SAE J118, Formerly Standard SAE Carbon Steels, will be retired since they are now combined in SAE J1249. In the future, new assignments to SAE J1081, Chemical Compositions of SAE Experimental Steels, will be given “PS” (Potential Standard) numbers rather than “EX” numbers. The steels listed in Tables 1 and 2 are no longer considered as standard steels. Producers should be contacted concerning availability. Steel grades can be reinstated based on usage according to the critieria indicated in SAE J403

This SAE Aerospace Standard (AS) offers gland details for a 0.364 inch (9.246 mm) cross-section gland (nominal 3/8 inch) with proposed gland lengths for compression-type seals with two backup rings over a range of 7 to 21 inches (178 to 533 mm) in diameter. The dash number system used is similar to AS568A. A 600 series has been chosen as a logical extension of AS568A, and the 625 number has been selected for the initial number, since 300 and 400 series in MIL-G-5514 and AS4716 begin with 325 and 425 sizes. Seal configurations and design are not a part of this document. This gland is for use with compression-type seals including, but not limited to, O-rings, T-rings, D-rings, cap seals, etc.
