This SAE Information Report establishes the Use Cases for communications and customer-focused Key Performance Indicators (KPI) between plug-in electric vehicles (PEVs) and their customers. The Use Case Scenarios define the information to be communicated related to customer convenience features for charge on/off control, charge power curtailment, customer preference settings, charging status, electric vehicle supply equipment (EVSE) availability/access, and electricity usage, plus customer information resulting from conflicts to charging preferences. It also addresses the KPI that can provide a uniform set of metrics to quantitively assess the charging experience. This document only provides the Use Cases that define the communications requirements to enable customers to interact with the PEV and the KPI to optimize their experience with charging a PEV. Specifications such as protocols and physical transfer methods for communicating information are not within the scope of this document.
Hybrid - EV Committee
This SAE Recommended Practice establishes the communication for the variety of potential functions for plug-in electric vehicle (PEV) customers. This includes features for use case items in SAE J2836/3 that may be PEV/customer optional equipment, such as AC vehicle-to-load (V2L) and AC vehicle-to-vehicle systems. These systems conform to SAE J1772 with variations required to identify to the PEV bidirectional onboard charger (OBC) the mode of operation changes and output requirements. SAE has published multiple documents relating to PEV and vehicle-to-grid (V2G) interfaces. The various document series are listed below, with a brief explanation of each. Figure 1 shows the sequencing of these documents and their primary function (e.g., the SAE J2836 and SAE J2847/1 documents start with smart charging, SAE J2836 and SAE J2847/2 then add DC charging, etc.). The intent is to have subsequent slash sheets complement each other as more functions and features are included. The /6 series of documents add wireless charging items not already included in the proceeding slash sheets. These are all then included in interoperability in SAE J2953 and security in SAE J2931/7. SAE J3072 then includes the PEV to grid requirements for V2G power and communication to match the SAE J2836/3 use cases.

According to SAE6906, Force Protection and Survivability (FPS) is the Human Systems Integration (HSI) domain that facilitates system operation and personnel safety during and after exposure to hostile situations or environments. Force protection refers to all preventive measures taken to mitigate hostile actions against Department of Defense (DoD) and Department of Homeland Security (DHS) (e.g., U.S. Coast Guard, Customs and Border Patrol, Immigration and Customs Enforcement, etc.) personnel. Survivability denotes the capability of the system and/or personnel manning the system to avoid or withstand man-made hostile environments without suffering an abortive impairment of his/her ability to accomplish its designated mission. Damage due to enemy or fratricidal action, or even equipment failure, will endanger the warfighters' well-being and place them into a life-threatening situation.

The thermocouple design recommended herein is presented as one for which the correction to the observed emf, because of thermal conduction along the stem and wires, is within the limits presented in the accompanying figure. On referring to the figure, it is seen that no restriction is placed upon the diameter of the thermocouple or stem, and the longitudinal dimensions are expressed in terms of wire and stem diameters. The type of stem, such as packed ceramic stock, refractory insulating tubing, etc., also is left open to choice. Thus the sizes of wires and supporting stems may be varied over wide ranges to match particular requirements where conduction errors are to be limited or controlled.

FMEA is a systematic approach aimed at identifying and mitigating potential risks in the design, manufacture, and maintenance of a product. Implementing FMEA provides a range of benefits, such as: Preventing potential failures early in the life cycle. Identifying risk - establishing clear linkages ensures that no potential failure mode is overlooked across the life cycle of the product. Improving product safety, reliability, performance, and supportability. Enhancing collaboration - the framework fosters cross-functional communication, enabling design, manufacturing, and maintenance teams to work in harmony. Achieving effectiveness - by integrating analyses and plans, organizations can streamline workflows and reduce redundancies. Reducing costs associated with product failures. Enhancing customer satisfaction through consistent quality and reliability. Improving product quality - comprehensive linkage reduces errors and ensures a robust design and manufacturing process. Providing the basis for developing product support requirements through supportability analysis FMEA is versatile and shall be applied across various dimensions of product and process management. This standard provides terms, definitions, defined data elements, and essential information within each category of FMEA. The are many types of FMEA, but the primary types defined in this standard include: DFMEA: Focuses product design deficiencies during the design phase of a product and is updated based on product design changes throughout the life of the product design. SwFMEA: Addresses risks and issues specific to software during the design phase of a product and is updated based on software changes throughout the life of the product design. SupFMEA: Evaluates factors affecting product support and maintenance during the design phase of a product and is updated throughout the life of the product design. PFMEA: Concentrates on manufacturing and operational processes to identify and mitigate risks during the design phase of a product and is updated based on product or process changes throughout the life of the product design. Quantitative Criticality Analysis: Focuses on determining the risk of failure based on calculated or estimated failure rates. An essential part of the FMEA process is to identify and communicate potential issues that need to be addressed. When significant risks are discovered, it is incumbent on the FMEA team to communicate quickly to key stakeholders so that the project team can address as soon as feasible and not wait until the contracted deliverable is completed. FMEA is a dynamic and living process, the result of which is improved designs, manufacturing processes, and supportability, not forms or databases that are filled out. This standard applies to any product, process, or software in all phases of their life cycle. As a standard, this document contains requirements (“shall”) and recommendations (“should”) to guide the user through FMEA methods.
