This SAE Aerospace Standard (AS) establishes guidelines for the use of IEEE-1394-2008 Beta (formerly IEEE-1394b) as a data bus network in military and aerospace vehicles. It encompasses the data bus cable and its interface electronics for a system utilizing S400 over copper medium over extended lengths. This document contains extensions/restrictions to “off-the-shelf” IEEE-1394 standards, and assumes that the reader already has a working knowledge of IEEE-1394. This document does not identify specific environmental requirements (electromagnetic compatibility, temperature, vibration, etc.); such requirements will be vehicle-specific and even LRU-specific. However, the hardware requirements and examples contained herein do address many of the environmental conditions that military and aerospace vehicles may experience. One should refer to the appropriate sections of MIL-STD-461E for their particular LRU, and utilize handbooks such as MIL-HDBK-454A and MIL-HDBK-5400 for guidance. This document is referred to as a “slash sheet” and accompanies the AS5643B base standard.

This SAE Aerospace Standard (AS) defines the requirements for a threadless, flexible, self-bonding coupling assembly which, when installed on machined fixed-cavity ferrules, provides a flexible connection for joining tubing and components in aircraft fuel, vent, or other systems. This assembled coupling, hereafter referred to as the assembly, is designed for use from -65 to +400 °F and at 125 psig nominal operating pressure. AS1650 was not designed for the new certification requirements for flammable leakage zones and fuel tanks for lightning protection and assembly redundancy. As such, their use and installation may require additional efforts and equipment to support new FAA CFR compliance. The AS7510 flexible coupling should be the preferred coupling for use in flammable leakage zones and fuel tanks that require service life and functionality for lightning protection and part redundancy.

NASA Langley Research Center has developed a method to create Sequential/Simultaneous Multi-Metallized Nanocomposites (S2M2N) via supercritical fluid (SCF) sequential or simultaneous multi-metal infusion. The SCF infusion process provides deep impregnation of metal nanoparticles into a variety of materials, including those with challenging topographies and complex structures. The resulting multi-metallized nanocomposites can possess high electrical conductivity, permittivity, permeability, wear resistance/anti-penetrant, and radiation shielding along with high toughness.

KSC Weather Data Archive

The Spaceport Weather Data Archive provides a fully searchable database of weather data gathered at Kennedy Space Center (KSC) and the Cape Canaveral Air Force Station. Not only can the user easily retrieve data and download it, but the user can also view graphically the weather data on a map overlay. The data are updated every hour for certain instruments, and as frequently as every 5 minutes for others. Data is available 24/7 over a publicly accessible Web site. The data is used by researchers to validate launch commit constraint criteria, and to ensure safe operations at KSC. The site provides links to technical publications and other resources, and allows data to be downloaded for further investigation.
