The primary objective of this recommended practice is to confirm that vehicles can communicate a minimum set of information in accordance with diagnostic test services specified in SAE J1979-2, or the equivalent ISO 14229-1:2013 (Ed. 2) and SAE J1979-3 documents. A successful result using the SAE J1699-5 Automotive Alliance for Innovation (AAI) software for OBD-II testing indicates that the main aspects of UDS communication have been examined, but it does not provide assurance of complete compliance with all aspects of SAE J1979-2 or SAE J1979-3. SAE J1699-5 tests run with a SAE J2534 device hardware and API that is not fully compliant will result in a test failure. This specification takes precedence over all conflicts in the documents cited in this section.

This SAE Aerospace Information Report (AIR) describes procedures for use in the field to determine if 115/200 Volt, 400 Hz aircraft external electrical power connectors are excessively worn, which may result in the inability of the external power plug to be retained, intermittent electrical performance, and arcing.

This SAE Information Report establishes a uniform procedure for assuring the manufactured quality, installed utility, and performance of automotive remote steering controls other than those provided by the vehicle manufacturer (OEM). These products are intended to provide driving capability to persons with physical disabilities. The adaptive modifications seek to compensate for lost or reduced function in the extremities of the driver with a disability. Remote steering controls are designed to provide a steering input device alternative to the OEM steering wheel that either reduces the required input force, changes the required range of motion or changes the location of the steering control, or any combination of the above. These controls supplement by power, other than by the driver’s own muscular efforts, the force output of the driver with a disability. Because this is an Information Report, the numerical values for performance measurements presented in this report and in the

This SAE Aerospace Standard (AS) covers ULDs utilized in finding submerged aircraft. Such ULDs are installed within the aircraft in a manner that they are unlikely to become separated during crash conditions. The low frequency ULD should be attached to the airframe in accordance with the manufacturer’s recommendations in order to maximize the underwater detection range. ARINC Standard 677 also provides installation guidance for Low Frequency ULDs.

This SAE Recommended Practice describes a laboratory test procedure for measuring the composite loss factor and bending stiffness properties of a system consisting of a damping material bonded to a vibrating bar which is excited at the center. The bar could be a steel, aluminum, glass, or other metal or composite bar that would be used in ground vehicles, marine products, and aircraft. The damping materials could be homogeneous, nonhomogeneous, a combination of homogeneous and nonhomogeneous, used in conjunction without or with an inelastic material (such as aluminum foil) in an extensional layer or a constrained layer configuration. The damping material could be a heat bondable material, adhesive backed sheet material, sprayable coating material, or other kinds of viscoelastic materials. The damping procedure discussed here provides means to measure damping over a range of frequencies and temperatures found applicable and useable for different transportation systems. The term

This document covers the process to be applied to design characteristics (as defined in AS9102), parts or inspection processes as defined by the purchaser. Design characteristics not included within the scope include electronic, electromechanical or mechanical systems where alternative means of acceptance are approved such as through acceptance test procedures (ATPs). This document does not define processes for identifying or communicating the classification of the parts or design characteristics. This document does not define the procedure to qualify a supplier to undertake these requirements. It is expected that each purchaser will have a procedure to manage the flow-down of these requirements. This document applies to suppliers that demonstrate adequate proficiency in applicable process control methods as determined by the purchaser.

This SAE Standard applies to dyes intended to be introduced into a mobile air-conditioning system refrigerant circuit for the purpose of allowing the application of ultraviolet leak detection. In order to label any product(s), they shall meet SAE J2297, the certification process as described in SAE J2911 must be followed, and the documentation described in Appendix A shall be submitted to SAE.
ICTMS Fluids Committee
This SAE Standard covers the mini-shed testing methodology to measure the rate of refrigerant loss from an automotive air conditioning (A/C) system. This SAE procedure encompasses both front and rear air conditioning systems utilizing refrigerants operating under sub-critical conditions. The SAE procedure will cover multiple refrigerants to emission testing and is utilized for evaluating air condtioning systems. Heat pump systems can also be evaluated; however, they will have different usage and mission profiles.

This document describes requirements for standardized processes (and associated technologies) that ensure type design data are retrievable and usable for the life of a type certificate (50+ years). These processes are primarily concerned with, but not limited to, digital type design data retained in three-dimensional representations and associated data that is required for complete product definition, such as tolerances, specification call-outs, product structure and configuration control data, etc. This process standard includes process requirements for managing the evolution of technologies required to ensure the availability of the data for the life of the product. This data must be available to meet regulatory, legal, contractual and business requirements. This process standard is not intended to incorporate every company specific requirement and does not dictate specific organizational structures within a company.
