This SAE Aerospace Recommended Practice (ARP) recommends a methodology to be used for the design, analysis and test evaluation of modern helicopter gas turbine propulsion system stability and transient response characteristics. This methodology utilizes the computational power of modern digital computers to more thoroughly analyze, simulate and bench-test the helicopter engine/rotor system speed control loop over the flight envelope. This up-front work results in significantly less effort expended during flight test and delivers a more effective system into service. The methodology presented herein is recommended for modern digital electronic propulsion control systems and also for traditional analog and hydromechanical systems.

“An Assessment of Planar Waves” provides background on some of the history of planar waves, which are time-dependent variations of inlet recovery, as well as establishing a hierarchy for categorizing various types of planar waves. It further identifies approaches for establishing compression-component and engine sensitivities to planar waves, and methods for accounting for the destabilizing effects of planar waves. This document contains an extensive list and categorization (see Appendix A) of references to aid both the newcomer and the practitioner on this subject. The committee acknowledges that this document addresses only the impact of planar waves on compression-component stability and does not address the impact of planar waves on augmenter rumble, engine structural issues, and/or pilot discomfort.

This SAE Recommended Practice establishes a single bolt pattern for the No. 1 clutch housing (see Figure 1) and the No. 2 clutch housing (see Figure 2). These four bolt patterns are designated to give commonality of mounting brackets in existing frame rails. The 420 mm (16.5 in) span, pad face to pad face, allows the ease of installation in existing frame rail widths. This is also the minimum spacing which will accommodate commonly used clutches.

The Gauge Evaluation Procedure Task Force was formed by the Non-Hydraulic Hose Committee to develop a gauge evaluation procedure to be used when evaluating the capability of gauges used for hose measurement. The use of a standard method for gauge evaluation will help users easily compare equipment capability. The information provided in this recommendation is based on the methods used to produce the data presented in SAE J1759 and J2605.
Non-Hydraulic Hose Committee
This specification covers a silicone rubber in the form of a two-component liquid.

This SAE Aerospace Recommended Practice (ARP) provides guidance in the design, development, qualification test, process control and production acceptance test for flight critical control valve (FCCV) design used in military flight control servoactuators where loss of single valve control could cause a catastrophic failure resulting in death, permanent total disability, and/or financial loss exceeding a defined contractual limit. The FCCV, which is one element of a flight control actuator servo control loop, is a variable position control valve which modulates fluid into and out of the servoactuator power stage cylinders. The FCCV may be mechanically driven by either a mechanical flight control system as shown in FIGURE 1 or hydraulically driven from electro-hydraulic servo valve (EHSV) modulation control flow as shown in FIGURE 2. This type of control valve is not an EHSV or a direct drive valve (DDV). The FCCV is used in military hydraulic systems which conform to AS5440.
