Long wave ultraviolet or UV-A irradiation (between 320 and 400 nm) is used for fluorescent inspections in magnetic particle and liquid penetrant examinations. UV-A irradiation is obtained from either LED, fluorescent, or high intensity discharge lamps that are stationary or portable. Commercially available UV-A lamps possess a large variation in intensity output that may introduce a legitimate concern for possible health hazards. This document reviews the nature of UV-A irradiation emitted by lamps and acceptable UV dosage limits adopted by the American Conference of Governmental Industrial Hygienists (ACGIH®) and European Union and recommendation of proper practices when working with UV-A irradiation.
This method is intended to evaluate the thermal and oxidative stability of synthetic, ester-based aviation lubricants under defined conditions of time and temperature. This method is applicable to lubricants meeting the compositional and performance requirements of AS5780.
This specification covers the installation of aircraft interior lighting for military aircraft.
This specification establishes the procedures used to produce a hard anodic coating on magnesium alloys and the properties of the coating.
This specification covers a corrosion-resistant steel in the form of sheet, strip, and plate.
This specification covers a manganese alloy in the form of powder, preforms, and a viscous mixture (paste) of the powder in a suitable binder.
This document provides recommendations to identify battery group sizes and dimensions for 6 V, 8 V, 12 V, and 24 V lead acid batteries.
The purpose of this SAE Aerospace Information Report (AIR) is to provide management, designers, and operators with information to assist them to decide what type of power train monitoring they desire. This document is to provide assistance in optimizing system complexity, performance, and cost effectiveness. This document covers all power train elements from the point at which energy in a turbine or electric engine is converted via a gear train to mechanical energy for propulsion purposes. The document covers aircraft engine driven transmission and gearbox components, their interfaces, drivetrain shafting, drive shaft hanger bearings, and associated rotating accessories, propellers, and rotor systems as shown in Figure 1. For guidance on monitoring additional engine components not addressed herein (e.g., main shaft bearings and compressor/turbine rotors), refer to ARP1839. This document addresses rotary and fixed wing applications for rotor, turboprop, turbofan, prop fan, and lift fan
This recommended practice applies to the rotating equipment in the electrical propulsion systems on electrically propelled dumpers. It also applies to the rotating equipment installed on trailers connected to electrically propelled dumpers. The recommended practice does not apply to rotating equipment such as windshield wiper motors, battery charging generators, etc. that may be used on dumpers.
Thrust measurement systems come in many sizes and shapes, with varying degrees of complexity, accuracy and cost . For the purposes of this information report, the discussions of thrust measurement will be limited to axial thrust in single-axis test systems.
AMS6885/5 is the Material Specification (MS) which defines the requirements of a unidirectional carbon fiber tape epoxy repair prepreg capable of curing under vacuum for repair of carbon fiber reinforced epoxy structures. It also defines the requirements of an epoxy film adhesive to be applied in a co-bonding process with the prepreg for solid laminate and sandwich bonding.
This specification covers a premium aircraft-quality, high-alloy steel gas-atomized and HIP-consolidated in the form of bars, wire, forgings, and forging stock.
This SAE Standard describes a laboratory test procedure for comparatively evaluating the durability and fatigue life qualities of a complete seat cushion by submitting the seating surface of the cushion to repetitive compressive and rotational loading with a simulated human buttocks.
This SAE Aerospace Standard (AS) defines the items that shall be considered when creating a fiber optic cable assembly specification and source control drawing intended for installation on aerospace platforms.
The pressurization system design considerations presented in this AIR deal with human physiological requirements, characteristics of pressurization air sources, methods of controlling cabin pressure, cabin leakage control, leakage calculation methods, and methods of emergency cabin pressure release.
This ARP addresses the issue of passengers smoking in aircraft lavatories and the need to improve warnings about the danger of fire caused by smoking.
This SAE Standard provides safety requirements for vacuum excavation and sewer cleaning equipment. This document is not intended to cover equipment addressed by other on-road federal, state, and local regulations. Truck-mounted or trailer-mounted vehicles are required to meet local or regional on-road requirements, as applicable.
