This document defines the technical guidelines for the safe integration of Proton Exchange Membrane (PEM) Fuel Cell Systems (FCS), fuel (considered to be liquid and compressed hydrogen storage types only), fuel storage, fuel distribution and appropriate electrical systems into the aircraft. Editorial Note: Today PEM systems and fuel storage represent the most mature FCS technology and currently forms the basis for this standard. Other types of fuel cell systems and fuels (including reforming technologies and electrolyzers), may be covered by a further update to this document.

Long wave ultraviolet or UV-A irradiation (between 320 and 400 nm) is used for fluorescent inspections in magnetic particle and liquid penetrant examinations. UV-A irradiation is obtained from either LED, fluorescent, or high intensity discharge lamps that are stationary or portable. Commercially available UV-A lamps possess a large variation in intensity output that may introduce a legitimate concern for possible health hazards. This document reviews the nature of UV-A irradiation emitted by lamps and acceptable UV dosage limits adopted by the American Conference of Governmental Industrial Hygienists (ACGIH®) and European Union and recommendation of proper practices when working with UV-A irradiation.

E-25 General Standards for Aerospace and Propulsion Systems
This document describes a rigorous-engineering fuel-consumption test procedure that utilizes industry accepted data collection and statistical analysis methods to determine the change in fuel consumption for trucks and buses with gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR) of more than 10000 pounds, equipped with internal combustion engines using diesel, gasoline, or their liquid substitutes. The test procedure may be conducted on a test track or on a public road under controlled conditions and supported by extensive data collection and data analysis constraints. The on-road test procedure is offered as a lower cost alternative to on-track testing, but the user is cautioned that on-road test may result in lower resolution (or precision) data due to a lack of control over the test environment. Test results that do not rigorously follow the method described herein are not intended for public use and dissemination and shall not be represented as an SAE J1321-Type II test result. The previous revision of AIR5784 summarizes some of the available literature on cabin air study, engine oil composition, decomposition, and toxicity testing. This revision of AIR5784 includes literature and information on stakeholder involvement, selected air sampling studies, oil composition, and oil degradation, published from 2000 to 2023. The entire contents of the reviewed literature are not necessarily endorsed by either SAE or the members of the study group who produced it. This is not a comprehensive review but is intended to enable E-34 and other technical organizations to participate in informed discussions on the topic. Also, the review is intended to indicate where additional work may be necessary to properly gauge the potential role that turbine lubricants (and OPs) play in cabin air quality. The toxicology of oil fumes and their individual constituents is beyond the scope of this document and outside the remit of this committee.
