SAE J1939-82 compliance describes the compliance tests and procedures to verify an SAE J1939 electronic control unit (ECU) operates correctly on a SAE J1939 network. The purpose of these compliance procedures is to generate one or more test documents that outline the tests needed to assure that an ECU that is designed to operate as a node on a SAE J1939 network would do so correctly. SAE does not certify devices and these tests and their results do not constitute endorsement by SAE of any particular ECU. These tests are presented to allow testing of an ECU to determine self-compliance by the manufacturer of an ECU. The manufacturer can use its record of what procedures were run successfully to show the level of compliance with SAE J1939.

This SAE Aerospace Recommended Practice (ARP) is intended to be used for laser systems mounted on aircraft and propagated into navigable airspace. This does not include lasers onboard aircraft where the beam is contained within an enclosure so that the beam cannot enter into airspace, nor does it include lasers from satellites and spacecraft in outer space. It may be used in conjunction with AS4970, ARP5535, ARP5572, ARP5293, and the ANSI Z136 laser safety standards.

Following a number of high-visibility collisions between aircraft on the airport surface, overall taxi operations have been brought under greater scrutiny. In addition, observation of taxi operations and the results of associated research programs have revealed that the efficiency of taxi operations could be significantly improved with available technologies and by applying a human centered design approach. Surface operations displays have been tested in prototype form and a number of manufacturers are moving toward product definition. This document provides guidance on the design of elements, which may be part of surface operations displays whose objectives would be to enhance safety and to improve overall efficiency of aircraft operations on the airport surface. Such efficiency increases should be realized not only in day-to-day operations, but should also be manifested in training for surface operations. The following tests are intended to be run under the following conditions. This document shall be applied to systems that meet the requirements for design, performance and validation established by government standards. If other manufacture’s components are intended to be approved for use in the lamp assembly, then those possible combinations of components shall be considered a new lamp assembly and shall also be tested.
