Long wave ultraviolet or UV-A irradiation (between 320 and 400 nm) is used for fluorescent inspections in magnetic particle and liquid penetrant examinations. UV-A irradiation is obtained from either LED, fluorescent, or high intensity discharge lamps that are stationary or portable. Commercially available UV-A lamps possess a large variation in intensity output that may introduce a legitimate concern for possible health hazards. This document reviews the nature of UV-A irradiation emitted by lamps and acceptable UV dosage limits adopted by the American Conference of Governmental Industrial Hygienists (ACGIH®) and European Union and recommendation of proper practices when working with UV-A irradiation.
This method is intended to evaluate the thermal and oxidative stability of synthetic, ester-based aviation lubricants under defined conditions of time and temperature. This method is applicable to lubricants meeting the compositional and performance requirements of AS5780.
This specification covers the installation of aircraft interior lighting for military aircraft.
This specification covers a manganese alloy in the form of powder, preforms, and a viscous mixture (paste) of the powder in a suitable binder.
This specification establishes the procedures used to produce a hard anodic coating on magnesium alloys and the properties of the coating.
This specification covers a corrosion-resistant steel in the form of sheet, strip, and plate.
This document provides recommendations to identify battery group sizes and dimensions for 6 V, 8 V, 12 V, and 24 V lead acid batteries.
For guidance only in regard to highway commercial motor vehicles where protection to the rear against rear wheel splash and stone throw is deemed necessary, the following clearance specifications are recommended.
This specification covers a low-alloy steel in the form of bare welding wire. Type 2 - copper coated wire was removed from this document (see 8.4).
This SAE Standard specifies the major dimensions and tolerances for Engine Flywheel Housings and the Mating Transmission Housing Flanges. It also locates the crankshaft flange face or the transmission pilot bore (or pilot bearing bore) stop face in relation to housing SAE flange face. This document is not intended to cover the design of the flywheel housing face mating with the engine crankcase rear face or the design of housing walls and ribs. Housing strength analysis and the selection of housing materials are also excluded. This document applies to any internal combustion engine which can utilize SAE No. 6 through SAE No. 00 size flywheel housing for mounting a transmission.

The turbine-engine-inlet flow distortion descriptors summarized in this document apply to the effects of inlet total-pressure, planar-wave, and total-temperature distortions. Guidelines on stability margin, destabilizing influences, types and purposes of inlet data, AIP definition, and data acquisition and handling are summarized from AIR5866, AIR5867, ARP1420, and AIR1419. The degree to which these recommendations are applied to a specific program should be consistent with the complexity of the inlet/engine integration. Total-pressure distortion is often the predominant destabilizing element that is encountered and is often the only type of distortion to be considered, i.e., not all types of distortion need to be considered for all vehicles.
This specification covers butadiene acrylonitrile (NBR) rubber in the form of molded rings.
This SAE Aerospace Recommend Practice (ARP) is intended to identify both safety related best practices and unique design considerations of metal halides High Intensity Discharge (HID) lamps and power supplies in aircraft applications.
This document establishes the Rotorcraft Industry Technology Association (RITA) Health and Usage Monitoring System Data Interchange Specification. The RITA HUMS Data Interchange Specification will provide information exchange within a rotorcraft HUMS and between a rotorcraft HUMS and external entities.
This SAE Aerospace Recommended Practice (ARP) establishes a procedure for disposition of aircraft wheels that have been involved in accidents/incidents or have been exposed to overheat conditions or overload conditions from loss of adjacent tire pressure (paired wheels) or wheel tie bolts.
This SAE Recommended Practice establishes minimum performance requirements for trucks, buses, truck-tractors, full trailers, and semitrailers with gross vehicle weight ratings greater than 4540 kg (10 000 lb) with regard to: a Vehicle classification b Vehicle load c Percent grade d Application force
This document defines requirements for digital, command/ response time division multiplexing (data bus) techniques for fiber optic implementation. The concept of operation and information flow on the multiplex data bus and the functional formats to be employed are also defined.
This SAE Aerospace Standard (AS) specifies scarf-cut polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) retainers (backup rings) for use in static glands in accordance with AS5857. They are usually for use in hydraulic and pneumatic systems as anti-extrusion devices in conjunction with O-rings and other seals.
Through the use of ultra-high frequency ultrasound, typically above 10 MHz, Acoustic Microscopy (AM) non-destructively finds and characterizes physical features and latent defects (visualization of interior features in a layer by layer process) - such as material continuity and discontinuities, sub-surface flaws, cracks, voids, delaminations and porosity. AM observed features and defects can be indicators that the components were improperly handled, stored, altered or previously used. If AS6171/6 is invoked in the contract, the base document, AS6171 General Requirements shall also apply.
This specification covers a low-alloy steel in the form of welding wire.
This specification covers the specific requirements for 5454 aluminum alloy plate and sheet; the general requirements are covered in AMS-QQ-A-250.
This specification covers three classes of fuel-resistant polysulfide (T) sealing compound with high strength and temperature characteristics, supplied as a two-component system which cures at room temperatures.
