Long wave ultraviolet or UV-A irradiation (between 320 and 400 nm) is used for fluorescent inspections in magnetic particle and liquid penetrant examinations. UV-A irradiation is obtained from either LED, fluorescent, or high intensity discharge lamps that are stationary or portable. Commercially available UV-A lamps possess a large variation in intensity output that may introduce a legitimate concern for possible health hazards. This document reviews the nature of UV-A irradiation emitted by lamps and acceptable UV dosage limits adopted by the American Conference of Governmental Industrial Hygienists (ACGIH®) and European Union and recommendation of proper practices when working with UV-A irradiation.
This method is intended to evaluate the thermal and oxidative stability of synthetic, ester-based aviation lubricants under defined conditions of time and temperature. This method is applicable to lubricants meeting the compositional and performance requirements of AS5780.
This specification covers the installation of aircraft interior lighting for military aircraft.
This specification covers a manganese alloy in the form of powder, preforms, and a viscous mixture (paste) of the powder in a suitable binder.
This specification establishes the procedures used to produce a hard anodic coating on magnesium alloys and the properties of the coating.
This specification covers a corrosion-resistant steel in the form of sheet, strip, and plate.
This document provides recommendations to identify battery group sizes and dimensions for 6 V, 8 V, 12 V, and 24 V lead acid batteries.
This SAE Aerospace Recommended Practice (ARP) establishes the guidelines for selection of titles of aerospace fitting documents generated by SAE Subcommittee G-3B.
This SAE Aerospace Standard (AS) defines the overall requirements applicable to oxygen flow indication as required by Airworthiness Requirements of CS/FAR 25.1449 to show that oxygen is being delivered to the dispensing equipment. Requirements of this document shall be applicable to any type of oxygen system technology and encompass “traditional” pneumatic devices, as well electric/electronic indication.
This Surface Vehicle & Aerospace Recommended Practice offers best practices and a methodology by which IVHM functionality relating to components and subsystems should be integrated into vehicle or platform level applications. The intent of the document is to provide practitioners with a structured methodology for specifying, characterizing and exposing the inherent IVHM functionality of a component or subsystem using a common functional reference model, i.e., through the exchange of design-time data and the application of standard vehicle data communications interfaces. This document includes best practices and guidance related to the specification of the information that must be exchanged between the functional layers in the IVHM system or between lower-level components/subsystems and the higher-level control system to enable health monitoring and tracking of system degradation severity. The intent is to provide an IVHM system that can robustly report the degradation of a given
This specification covers a carbon steel in the form of sheet and strip.
This specification covers a polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) modified fluorosilicone (FVMQ) rubber in the form of molded shapes, molded rings (ASTM D 1414), and compression seals.
This document establishes training guidelines applicable to fiber optic quality assurance technical training for individuals involved in the manufacturing, installation, support, integration and testing of fiber optic systems. Applicable personnel include: Managers Engineers Technicians Trainers/Instructors Third Party Maintenance Agencies Quality Assurance Production
This test method establishes a standard procedure for using plug gages to evaluate dimensional conformance of lined inside diameters of bearings. Bearings covered by this test method include sleeve bearings and lined bore spherical bearings. Note that this method gives no indication of true cylindricity.
This SAE Aerospace Standard (AS) defines the requirements for saddle-type clamps. Tests and criteria noted do not indicate any specific areas of application or usage. Supplemental testing may be necessary to determine suitability for specific environments and applications.
This SAE Aerospace Standard (AS) establishes a Generic Open Architecture (GOA) Framework for application independent hardware/software systems. This document defines the interface classes for the GOA Framework. Supplemental documents define the guidelines for applying the GOA Framework to specific applications.
AMS6885/2 gives specific information about the qualification program for unidirectional carbon fiber tape epoxy repair prepreg capable of curing under vacuum for repair of carbon fiber reinforced epoxy structures. The prepreg system shall include an epoxy film adhesive to be applied in a co-bonding process with the prepreg for solid laminate and sandwich bonding.
This standard outlines test methods and practices which can detect embrittlement of steel parts. It is a process control or referee verification test. The risk of embrittlement of steel is minimized by using best practices in the finishing/coating process. One such practice is described in SAE/USCAR-5, Avoidance of Hydrogen Embrittlement of Steel.
This specification covers a corrosion-resistant steel in the form of two types of aircraft tubing.
This SAE Standard establishes the requirement for suppliers to plan a maintainability program that satisfies the following three requirements: The supplier shall ascertain customer requirements. The supplier shall meet customer requirements. The supplier shall assure that customer requirements have been met.
This SAE Aerospace Recommended Practice (ARP) defines impulse test procedures that are recommended for hydraulic components.
This specification covers established manufacturing tolerances applicable to low-alloy steel bars ordered to inch/pound dimensions. These tolerances apply to all conditions, unless otherwise noted. The term “exclusive” is used to apply only to the higher figure of the specified range.
