The purpose of this SAE Aerospace Recommended Practice (ARP) is to provide the sample selection and endurance time test procedures for SAE Type II, III, and IV aircraft deicing/anti-icing fluids, required for the generation of endurance time data of acceptable quality for review by the SAE G-12 Holdover Time Committee. The related standard ARP5718 provides the process by which endurance time data is converted to holdover times for publication by regulators and subsequent use by aircraft operators.

This document describes analytical methods for calculating the attenuation of the level of the sound propagating from an airplane to locations on the ground and to the side of the flight path of an airplane during ground roll, climbout after liftoff, and landing operations. Both level and non-level ground scenarios may be modeled using these methods, however application is only directly applicable to terrain without significant undulations, which may cause multiple reflections and/or multiple shielding effects. This attenuation is termed lateral attenuation and is in excess of the attenuation from wave divergence and atmospheric absorption. The methods for calculating the lateral attenuation of the sound apply to: turbofan-powered transport-category airplanes with engines mounted at the rear of the fuselage (on the sides of the fuselage or in the center of the fuselage as well as on the sides) or under the wings propeller-driven transport-category or general-aviation airplanes

The purpose of this SAE Standard is to provide minimum performance and operating feature requirements for the recovery of HFC-134a (R-134a) refrigerant to be returned to a refrigerant reclamation facility that will process it to the appropriate AHRI 700 Standard or allow for on-site recycling of the recovered refrigerant to SAE J2788 specifications by using SAE J2788 or SAE J3030 -certified equipment. It is not acceptable that the refrigerant removed from a mobile air-conditioning (A/C) system with this equipment be directly returned to a mobile A/C system. An identifier certified to SAE J2912 is to be used to identify the contents of the system prior to recovery of the refrigerant.

The system emissions chart contained herein is intended to serve as a means of estimating the annual refrigerant emission rate (grams per year) from new production A/C systems equipped with specified component technologies. It provides emission values for various component technologies that are currently available and can be expanded as new technologies are commercialized. This document provides the information to develop an Excel file template system emissions chart for system emission analysis. The chart includes automotive compressor technologies for conventional mobile air conditioning systems, as well as those using semi-hermetic compressors. Fully hermetic compressors contain the working electric compressor within a welded housing that allows little if any typical emissions and the emission value for this type of compressor is added as low, fixed value. The purpose of this SAE Recommended Practice is to provide manufacturers with updated criteria for the 2020 and later model years. This SAE Recommended Practice is also suitable for reporting credit using and Engineering Analysis to the California Air Resources Board (CARB). This SAE Recommended Practice describes the work done by the IMAC GHG CRP to develop test procedures, publish SAE Standards, and determine performance requirements to demonstrate the performance of A/C technologies from the pre-approved credit menu meeting regulatory requirements. Also, enclosed in this SAE Recommended Practice are instructions that can be used by vehicle manufacturers in establishing an engineering analysis in lieu of performing the AC17 test on a vehicle which does not incorporate the credit-generating technologies. The purpose of this SAE Recommended Practice is to establish the specific criteria for the selection of a replacement refrigerant for mobile CFC-12 (R-12) air-conditioning (A/C) systems. This document provides guidelines for qualifying candidate refrigerant. The requirements include laboratory and field testing. The alternate refrigerant shall provide comparable system performance as CFC-12 (R-12) as defined herein. The vehicle testing shall be conducted on representative vehicle manufacturer’s product line, in which the refrigerant is intended to be used, such as cycling clutch orifice tube, constant run orifice tube, cycling clutch expansion valve, or continuous run expansion valve refrigerant system. This document is complete only when combined with the requirements of SAE J1657.

This SAE Standard applies to refrigerant diagnostic identification equipment to be used for identifying refrigerant HFC-134a (R-134a) and HFO-1234yf (R-1234yf) refrigerant when servicing a mobile A/C system or for identifying refrigerant in a container to be used to charge a mobile A/C system. Identification of other refrigerants is the option of the equipment manufacturer, although it shall not misidentify refrigerants, per 3.2.

SAE/USCAR-46 defines test methods and outputs for engine oil pump bench testing. Performance and durability testing are the primary focus of this standard. This is written to specifically address testing of electronically controlled variable displacement pumps but can be adapted to mechanically controlled pumps and other pump technologies as needed. This standard outlines critical inputs and outputs in order to perform the testing and report results, but does not specifically set the acceptance standards or pass/fail criteria. Acceptance criteria must be set by the customer.

Procurement specification is principally for defining protection sleeves on a cable or group of electrical/fiber optic wires (wiring bundle). Single wire protection depends on the minimum diameter of the wire. Sleeve may be used to protect a wire bundle for a platform installation or for repair of installed damaged jacket or jacket/shielded wire bundles. Refer to AS50881 for aerospace wire bundle protection installations.
