This method is intended to evaluate the thermal and oxidative stability of synthetic, ester-based aviation lubricants under defined conditions of time and temperature. This method is applicable to lubricants meeting the compositional and performance requirements of AS5780.
Long wave ultraviolet or UV-A irradiation (between 320 and 400 nm) is used for fluorescent inspections in magnetic particle and liquid penetrant examinations. UV-A irradiation is obtained from either LED, fluorescent, or high intensity discharge lamps that are stationary or portable. Commercially available UV-A lamps possess a large variation in intensity output that may introduce a legitimate concern for possible health hazards. This document reviews the nature of UV-A irradiation emitted by lamps and acceptable UV dosage limits adopted by the American Conference of Governmental Industrial Hygienists (ACGIH®) and European Union and recommendation of proper practices when working with UV-A irradiation.

This document provides recommendations to identify battery group sizes and dimensions for 6 V, 8 V, 12 V, and 24 V lead acid batteries.
This specification covers a manganese alloy in the form of powder, preforms, and a viscous mixture (paste) of the powder in a suitable binder.
This specification establishes the procedures used to produce a hard anodic coating on magnesium alloys and the properties of the coating.
This specification covers a corrosion-resistant steel in the form of sheet, strip, and plate.
This SAE Standard applies to 12-volt lead-acid storage batteries that are designed specifically for start-stop operations in on-road passenger vehicles or light trucks. Included are definitions of terms, general testing recommendations, key performance characteristics, and life testing. Properties not unique to start-stop batteries should be tested according to SAE J537 or other applicable testing protocols.
This document outlines general requirements for the use of CFD methods for aerodynamic simulation of medium and heavy commercial ground vehicles weighing more than 10000 pounds. The document provides guidance for aerodynamic simulation with CFD methods to support current vehicle characterization, vehicle development, vehicle concept development, and vehicle component development. The guidelines presented in the document are related to Navier-Stokes and Lattice-Boltzmann based solvers. This document is only valid for the classes of CFD methods and applications mentioned. Other classes of methods and applications may or may not be appropriate to simulate the aerodynamics of medium and heavy commercial ground vehicle weighing more than 10000 pounds.
This specification covers the requirements for electrodeposited tin-lead plating intended for use as a coating for corrosion protection and as a base for soldering.
This specification covers the requirements for three types and three classes of mechanically deposited cadmium, tin-cadmium or zinc coatings on metallic surfaces by impacting (peen plating).
This specification covers silicone (VMQ) rubber sheet reinforced with glass cloth.
This specification covers an irradiated, thermally-stabilized, modified polyolefin plastic in the form of thin-wall tubing.
This SAE Recommended Practice provides information useful in the marking of engine and transmission dipsticks used for fluid level indication.
All safety glazing materials used in motor vehicles and motor vehicle equipment operating on land highways should comply with the requirements of the American National Standard, ANSI/SAE Z-26.1. The American National Standard for Safety Glazing Materials for Glazing Motor Vehicles and Motor Vehicle Equipment Operating on Land Highways—Safety Standard, ANSI/SAE Z-26.1-1996 is the latest complete updated version and is referred to hereafter as “the safety standard.” This SAE Recommended Practice is not intended to preclude references to any governmental law, ordinance, or regulation which might apply to the glazing of motor vehicles and motor vehicle equipment operating on land highways.
This specification, in conjunction with the general requirements for steel heat treatment covered in AMS2759, establishes the requirements for heat treatment of carbon and low-alloy steel parts to minimum ultimate tensile strengths below 220 ksi (1517 MPa). Parts are defined in AMS2759. Due to limited hardenability in these materials, there are size limits in this specification.
This specification covers columbium in the form of sheet, strip, plate, and foil.
The following schematic diagrams reflect various methods of illustrating automotive transmission arrangements. These have been developed to facilitate a clear understanding of the functional interrelations of the gearing, clutches, hydrodynamic drive unit, and other transmission components. Two variations of transmission diagrams are used: in neutral (clutches not applied) and in gear. For illustrative purposes, some typical transmissions are shown.
This specification covers an aircraft-quality, low-alloy steel in the form of sheet, strip, and plate.
This specification covers coated round rods manufactured by the pultrusion process from glass fiber roving and a weather-resistant polyester resin binder in the form of straight lengths or in coils.
This SAE Aerospace Standard (AS) establishes the requirements for fluid fittings that combine both 24° cone flareless and 37° flared connections for use in all types of fluid systems.
(These definitions were prepared by the Joint Committee on Definitions of Terms Relating to Heat Treatment appointed by the American Society for Testing and Materials, The American Society for Metals, the American Foundrymen's Association, and the SAE.) This SAE revision emphasizes the terms used in heat treating ferrous alloys, but also includes for reference some non-ferrous definitions at the end of the document. This glossary is not intended to be a specification, and it should not be interpreted as such. Since this is intended to be strictly a set of definitions, temperatures have been omitted purposely.
This SAE Standard covers fittings, couplers, and hoses intended for connecting service hoses from mobile air-conditioning systems to service equipment such as charging, recovery, and recycling equipment (see Figure 1). This specification covers service hose fittings and couplers for MAC service equipment service hoses, per SAE J2843 and SAE J2851, from mobile air-conditioning systems to service equipment such as manifold gauges, vacuum pumps, and air-conditioning charging, recovery, and recycling equipment.
This specification covers a blend of chromium carbide and a nickel-chromium alloy in the form of powder.
This AIR was prepared to inform the aerospace industry about the electromagnetic interference measurement capability of spectrum analyzers. The spectrum analyzers considered are of the wide dispersion type which are electronically tuned over an octave or wider frequency range. The reason for limiting the AIR to this type of spectrum analyzer is that several manufacturers produce them as general-purpose instruments, and their use for EMI measurement will give significant time and cost savings. The objective of the AIR is to give a description of the spectrum analyzers, consider the analyzer parameters, and describe how the analyzers are usable for collection of EMI data. The operator of a spectrum analyzer should be thoroughly familiar with the analyzer and the technical concepts reviewed in this AIR before performing EMI measurements.
This SAE Standard defines the basic structural elements, and guidance on compilation and management, for a software supportability program. Software supportability considerations include initial design influence and through-life support embracing the operational use, post-delivery modification, and logistics management of software. This document requires that the processes of design, development, selection, and production of software include software supportability considerations, as relevant to particular project needs.
