A set of proficiency specimens containing realistic composite structures and representative damage are available to reinforce teaching points and evaluate inspector’s proficiency. This SAE Aerospace Information Report (AIR) presents preferred design, assembly, and repair practices for sealing of aircraft integral fuel tanks, including rework of applied fuel tank seals. It addresses engineering designs for integral fuel tanks as they are currently found in practice and discusses the most practical and conservative methods for producing a reliable, sealed system. Although this AIR presents practices for sealing of integral fuel tanks, the practices presented within this report are practices that are carried throughout sealing that include both pressure and environmental aircraft sealing. Design preferences for optimum sealing are not within the scope of this document. This SAE Aerospace Information Report (AIR) provides guidelines for the design of portable Controlled Contamination Areas (CCAs) that can provide localized environmental control when processing a repair at the airplane or in a hangar environment. The use of a portable CCA may result in a better quality repair. The use of a portable CCA may assist in achieving the environmental requirements for bonded repairs specified in an approved repair procedure. This provides an option to accomplish a repair on nonremovable structure or difficult to remove components.

In all configurations, the 0° ply direction is parallel to the length of the broadgoods roll or sheet, or tape.

This SAE Standard describes a laboratory test procedure for measuring the vibration damping performance of a system consisting of a damping material bonded to a vibrating cantilevered steel bar. The bar is often called the Oberst bar (named after Dr. H. Oberst) and the test method is often called the Oberst bar test method. Materials for damping treatments may include homogeneous materials, nonhomogeneous materials, or a combination of homogeneous, nonhomogeneous, and/or inelastic (such as aluminum foil) materials. These materials are commonly installed in transportation systems such as ground vehicles, marine products, and aircraft to reduce vibration at resonance, and thus reduce the noise radiation from the vibrating surface. The test method described herein was developed to rank order materials for application on panels using general automotive steel but also may be applicable to other situations or conditions. The outcome of this TIR is to establish proton exchange membrane (PEM) testing methods and characterization of chemicals used in HRS, during operation and maintenance that can influence the performance of commercial PEM fuel cell vehicles. Hydrogen quality standards such as SAE J2719 provide list of contaminants with maximum impurity levels that ensure safe operation of fuel cell vehicles. These contaminants are primarily from the hydrogen production. Less attention in these quality standards were given to the contaminants generated from the installation, operation and maintenance of HRS. Common chemicals used during HRS operation are refrigerants, lubricants, etc., and during HRS installation and maintenance are solvents cleaning agents, lubricants, etc. Some of these chemicals are found to have adverse impacts on PEM fuel cells. The development of testing methods and characterization of chemicals in this report are based on similar methods used in SAE J2719 although the approach in

This SAE Aerospace Recommended Practice (ARP) establishes methods and identifies opportunities to sample used powder feedstock circulating within closed loop equipment of an additive manufacturing (AM) process for the purpose of showing conformance to a powder specification. Powder within the entirety of closed loop equipment cannot be represented by sampling and testing of discrete, in-process lots. Because powder processing (i.e., reconditioning, conveyance, and storage) is asynchronous with a build cycle, individual samples and their associated tests do not represent the totality of powder committed to a machine. Powder consumed as part of an individual build cycle may only represent a subset of feedstock in circulation within such equipment. Therefore, regular testing to substantiate conformance to a powder specification is required to assert conforming feedstock was consumed during individual build cycles of the AM workflow to fabricate parts or preforms.
