This SAE Recommended Practice was developed primarily for gasoline-powered passenger car and truck applications to interface vapor recovery systems, but it may be used in diesel, marine, industrial, and similar applications where a nozzle is required for filling. The zones cover nozzle spout access and handle clearance to a refilling port. In addition, this recommended practice includes a design window for nozzle manufacturers to develop with.

This specification, in conjunction with the general requirements for steel heat treatment covered in AMS2759, establishes the requirements for heat treatment of precipitation-hardening corrosion-resistant, maraging, and secondary hardening steel parts. Parts are defined in AMS2759. Parts made from steels other than those specified in this specification may be heat treated in accordance with the applicable requirements herein using processing temperatures, times, and other parameters recommended by the material producer unless otherwise specified by the cognizant engineering organization. General ordering instructions are specified in AMS2759.
This specification covers a corrosion- and heat-resistant steel in the form of bars, forgings, and forging stock.
This specification covers the requirements for thermal spray coatings applied using the high velocity oxygen fuel (HVOF) combustion process. This specification is not intended to be used for duplex coatings, i.e., the application of the coating over a previously applied coating.
This SAE Aerospace Information Report (AIR) covers the general requirements for, and the listing of, manufacturers’ identification markings, names, symbols or trademarks, and CAGE codes that appear on electrical and electronic wiring devices and accessories as required by individual product specifications. Supplier markings from previous submitted listings are maintained for component traceability.
This procedure measures the resistance to radiant heat flow of insulating materials in sleeve, tubing, or tape (collectively referred to as “sleeve”) form. The sleeve’s effectiveness (SE) is determined by measuring the difference in surface temperature of a flat black, single-diameter ceramic cylinder with and without the standard diameter sleeve at the specified temperature, position, and distance from the radiant heat source.
This specification covers procedures and requirements for peening of metal parts with portable, bonded-shot, rotary flap assemblies in accordance with AS2592. The principles of rotary flap peening are similar to conventional shot peening, except conversion of arc height values using the magnetic test Almen strip holder is required for intensity determination.
The purpose of this SAE Aerospace Recommended Practice (ARP) is to provide the sample selection and endurance time test procedures for SAE Type II, III, and IV aircraft deicing/anti-icing fluids, required for the generation of endurance time data of acceptable quality for review by the SAE G-12 Holdover Time Committee. The related standard ARP5718 provides the process by which endurance time data is converted to holdover times for publication by regulators and subsequent use by aircraft operators.
This document is intended to establish a procedure to certify AD fallback test driver skill levels as an endorsement to SAE J3300 foundational level certification. The SAE J3300/3 endorsement can be used by the individual driver to qualify their skills as a test driver of vehicles with automated driving features. The SAE J3300/3 endorsement levels may also be used by test facilities or other organizations when seeking test or professional drivers with these skills. This document provides directions for obtaining the endorsement, including associated AD fallback test driving skill examination requirements, through SAE J3300-certified Examiners (refer to SAE J3300 for definition). Endorsement registration and associated records are administered through Probitas Authentication®. Probitas Authentication® is the current Independent Program Administrator for the SAE J3300 series. This document is a supplement to SAE J3300, providing information specific to the AD fallback test driver skill
The scope of this SAE Information Report is to provide general information relative to the nature and use of magnetic particles for nondestructive testing. The document is not intended to provide detailed technical information, but will serve as an introduction to the theory and capabilities of magnetic particle testing, and as a guide to more extensive references.
This specification covers a premium aircraft-quality, high-alloy steel gas-atomized and HIP-consolidated in the form of bars, wire, forgings, and forging stock.
This specification, in conjunction with the general requirements for steel heat treatment in AMS2759, establishes requirements for thermal stress-relief treatments of parts manufactured from the following materials: a Carbon and low-alloy steels b Tool steels c Precipitation-hardening, corrosion-resistant, and maraging steels d Austenitic corrosion-resistant steels e Martensitic corrosion-resistant steels
This specification covers one grade of commercially pure titanium in the form of wire for welding filler metal (see 8.5).
This SAE Recommended Practice covers the number, location, and method of attachment of safety chains for full trailers and/or converter dollies.
The purpose of this SAE Recommended Practice is to establish test procedures and minimum performance standards for kingpins and their supporting structure manufactured to SAE specifications. The dimensions shown in SAE J700 will permit the establishment of standard clearances in the installed condition which, in turn, will permit fifth wheel manufacturers to design their products to establish interchangeability with any kingpin made and installed to the SAE specification.
This Aerospace Standard (AS) covers the general minimum performance standards for generators/starter-generators and associated voltage regulators for use in direct current (DC) electric systems for civil aircraft.
This specification covers a manganese alloy in the form of powder, preforms, and a viscous mixture (paste) of the powder in a suitable binder.
This Aerospace Standard (AS), establishes minimum performance standards for those sensors, computers, transponders, and airplane flight deck controls/displays which together comprise a Takeoff Performance Monitor (TOPM) System. This standard also defines functional capabilities, design requirements, and test procedures. A TOPM system is intended to monitor the progress of the takeoff and to provide advisory information which the crew may use in conjunction with other available cues to decide to continue or abort the takeoff. See Appendix A for supplementary information relating to NTSB, CAA, and ad hoc committee concerns and background information.
This specification covers a titanium alloy in the form of wire for welding filler metal (see 8.5).
This SAE Recommended Practice provides the framework to allow reprogramming software applications from all vehicle manufacturers the flexibility to work with multiple vehicle data link interface tools from multiple tool suppliers. This system enables each vehicle manufacturer to control the programming sequence for electronic control units (ECU’s) in their vehicles, but allows a single set of programming hardware and vehicle interface to be used to program modules for all vehicle manufacturers. This document does not limit the hardware possibilities for the connection between the PC used for the software application and the tool (e.g., RS-232, RS-485, USB, Ethernet…). Tool suppliers are free to choose the hardware interface appropriate for their tool. The goal of this document is to ensure that reprogramming software from any vehicle manufacturer is compatible with hardware supplied by any tool manufacturer. The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the California Air
This SAE Standard provides a means for specifying or describing the pertinent properties of fiberboards for automotive applications. The materials normally specified by this standard are defined in SAE J947. The test methods commonly used for fiberboards are defined in SAE J315.
This document, the JAUS Compliance and Interoperability Policy (ARP6012), recommends an approach to documenting the complete interface of an unmanned system or component in regard to the application of the standard set. While non-SAE AS-4 JAUS documents are referenced in this ARP they are not within the scope of this document and should be viewed as examples only.
