This SAE Standard establishes the test procedure, environment, and instrumentation for determining the sound levels of snowmobiles in the stationary test mode. This test method is intended to provide an accurate measurement of exhaust and other engine noise and may be used to evaluate new and in-use snowmobiles to determine compliance with noise control regulations. Sound level measurements obtained with this test method are not intended as an engineering determination of overall machine noise. For this purpose, the use of SAE J192 is recommended.
This SAE Aerospace Recommended Practice (ARP) discusses the desired characteristics of night vision goggle (NVG) filters that can be used with incandescent, electroluminescent (EL) and light emitting diode (LED) light sources to achieve NVG compatible lighting of aerospace crew stations. This document also discusses the parameters that need to be considered when selecting a night vision goggle/daylight viewing (NVG/DV) filter for proper contrast enhancement to achieve readability in daylight. The recommendations set forth in this document are to aid in the design of NVG compatible lighting that will meet the requirements of MIL-L-85762A and MIL-STD-3009.
SAE J1298 covers the recommended diagnostic port sizes for use in measuring hydraulic fluid temperature, pressure, flow, and for obtaining fluid samples. See SAE J1502 for the detailed coupling specifications.
This SAE Standard was developed to provide a method for indicating the direction of engine rotation and numbering of engine cylinders. The document is intended for use in designing new engines to eliminate the differences which presently exist in industry.
This specification covers the requirements for compositions of corrosion-resistant (18-8) steel bars, rods, wire and forging stock.
This SAE Aerospace Recommended Practice (ARP) outlines the functional and design requirements for a self-propelled belt conveyor for handling baggage and cargo at aircraft bulk cargo holds. Additional considerations and requirements may legally apply in other countries. As an example, for operation in Europe (EU and EFTA), the applicable EN standards shall be complied with.
This specification covers two types of thickened, water base temporary coating remover in the form of an alkaline liquid.
This specification covers the specific requirements for 2124 aluminum alloy plate for intended use in the -T851 temper; the general requirements are covered in AMS-QQ-A-250.
This specification covers the specific requirements for 2219 aluminum alloy plate and sheet.
This SAE Aerospace Standard (AS) defines Minimum Performance Standards (MPS), qualification requirements, and minimum documentation requirements for side-facing seats in civil rotorcraft, transport aircraft, and general aviation aircraft. The goal is to achieve comfort, durability, and occupant protection under normal operational loads and to define test and evaluation criteria to demonstrate occupant protection when a side-facing seat/occupant/restraint system is subjected to statically applied ultimate loads and to dynamic test conditions set forth in Title 14, Code of Federal Regulations (CFR) Part 23, 25, 27, or 29. While this document addresses system performance, responsibility for the seating system is divided between the seat supplier and the installation applicant. The seat supplier’s responsibility consists of meeting all the seat system performance requirements and obtaining and supplying to the installation applicant all the data prescribed by this document. The
This specification establishes requirements for 2xxx-series and 7xxx-series aluminum alloy forgings of any shape or form from which finished parts are to be made. (See 8.2, 8.3, 8.4, 8.5.4, 8.6 and 8.8.)
This SAE Aerospace Standard (AS) provides general requirements for components that are used in commercial aircraft hydraulic systems. It also includes the 14 CFR Part 25/CS 25 regulations that apply to hydraulic components. It also provides information to be included in the Procurement Specification in Appendix A and a checklist for design reviews in Appendix B. It does not provide requirements for distribution elements such as hoses, pipe fittings and general tubing.
This ARP provides definitions and background information regarding the physical performance and testing of DDVs. This ARP also provides extensive guidance for the preparation of procurement specifications and functional testing.
This SAE Recommended Practice applies to a decorative lamp(s) installed on the front of motor vehicles. This lamp(s) is intended only to be decorative and is not to impair the effectiveness of any required lighting device. This recommended practice establishes uniformity in use guidelines for the performance, installation, activation, and switching of a front decorative lamp(s).
This SAE Information Report establishes procedures and terminology for measuring, calculating, and referencing the percent vehicle overlap for a case vehicle in real-world or staged end plane collisions where the end plane of the case vehicle is engaged at one of the two bumper corners but not both. This SAE Information Report may be applied to rear or front plane impacts.
This Aerospace Standard (AS) 5659/4 Physical Layer Specification provides guidance for the physical layer of optical networks which use Wavelength Division Multiplexing (WDM), within the AS5659 WDM LAN specification document family. The physical layer consists of the optical interconnections between the functional components of the network. Performance requirements for general interconnections are described. For guidance, standards are identified, corresponding to each of several environments, which describe physical layer design, installation, maintenance, and training.
This SAE Aerospace Standard (AS) establishes the minimum requirements for ground-based aircraft deicing/anti-icing methods and procedures to ensure the safe operation of aircraft during icing conditions on the ground. This document does not specify the requirements for particular aircraft models. The application of the procedures specified in this document are intended to effectively remove and/or prevent the accumulation of frost, snow, slush, or ice contamination which can seriously affect the aerodynamic performance and/or the controllability of an aircraft. The principal method of treatment employed is the use of fluids qualified to AMS1424 (Type I fluid) and AMS1428 (Type II, III, and IV fluids). All guidelines referred to herein are applicable only in conjunction with the applicable documents. Due to aerodynamic and other concerns, the application of deicing/anti-icing fluids shall be carried out in compliance with engine and aircraft manufacturer’s recommendations.
This SAE Aerospace Standard (AS) provides minimum design, hole preparation, installation and removal requirements for AS3272, AS3273, MA3274, and MA3275 serrated shank self-locking clinch nuts. This standard is applicable when specified on engineering drawings or in procurement documents.
This specification covers compounds for sealing aircraft structure against the passage of air, liquids and vapors.
This SAE Aerospace Recommended Practice (ARP) is intended as a guide toward standard practice for selection of nominal hex widths for fittings.
SAE J1939-2 specifies the requirements for application of SAE J1939 in agricultural and forestry equipment. This document specifies the series of documents within the set of SAE J1939 documents that are applicable to agricultural and forestry equipment and provides further requirements for this industry. The SAE and ISO groups have cooperated to define agricultural and forestry networks in a manner to allow compatibility of ECUs and messaging protocols between the A&F and the T&B networks.
