Heavy Duty Lighting Standards Committee
This specification defines the dimensional and performance requirements for aftermarket spin-on oil filters intended for use on gasoline engines. Filters meeting this specification may also be suitable for use on some diesel applications. Filters meeting these dimensional limits are intended to meet the oil filter fit and package requirements for engine and vehicle designs. Filters meeting the performance requirements are intended to maintain sufficient durability to support typical 10000 mile oil change intervals. Some OEM engines may require special filters for which this specification would not support. Filters that meet or exceed this specification requirements for both dimensional and performance can claim “Conformance to SAE/USCAR - 36 Specifications.” Filters that meet just the performance specifications (ie. may have different thread) can claim “Aligns to SAE/USCAR - 36 Performance Specifications.”

The minimum values associated with this design guide need to be evaluated against other critical characteristics that impact quality, efficiency, and other traits of assembly feasibility. Non-routine repair tasks do not apply to this specification. In addition, ergonomic risk factors may be present in other subtasks related to connector mating - such as lifting the harness or manipulating it into position. These risk factors are not discussed within SAE/USCAR-25. All possible designs and applications could not be anticipated in creating these guidelines. Where there are questions of adherence to this specification, such as use of an “off-the-shelf” design, always consult the responsible Ergonomics Department.

This SAE Aerospace Recommended Practice (ARP) applies to airline trailer equipment with four wheel running gear pulled and steered through an integral tow bar, for use on airport ramps and other airport areas for transporting baggage, freight, and other materials. This ARP can apply to any airline/airport trailer chassis regardless of its equipment; the trailer bed can be designed to carry either bulk baggage/cargo, or a cargo unit load device by means of a rollerized conveyor system, or a piece of aircraft servicing equipment (e.g., ground power unit, air start unit, etc.).

Exposures referenced in this specification include thermal shock, temperature humidity cycling, and mechanical stress. This specification is intended to evaluate the strength and performance of the interface between wires and the electrical terminal pad. The graphics used are specific to the linear weld type of process equipment. Validation of the terminal is a separate task (refer to a component validation test such as SAE/USCAR-2). If the weld under test (WUT) is different than described in this section or is subjected to conditions beyond what is typical of automotive use, the test sequence may not be applicable.
