The present work regards the analysis of connecting rod for a flex fuel engine. The study comprised primary dynamic analysis, joint opening analysis, stresses, strains and deformation of the components, besides fatigue analysis of the connecting rod for rated power, peak torque and over speed operating condition. In this paper, however, not all details are present, but only the information relevant for the well comprehension of the physics involved and the numerical approach used for the durability evaluation.
The machining operation was taking into account by monitoring the bearing nodes displacements after bolt loading. These displacements are removed before all the mentioned operating conditions.
The CAD geometry, boundary conditions, mechanical press fit and material properties (as well as fatigue life properties) were supplied by the customer.
