- In replacement of steel, plastics are being used more and more in structural instrument panel, (IP) applications. Plastics are an excellent alternative because they provide weight and cost savings, as well as, ease of assembly and part consolidation.[1] A technique to join the plastic interfaces and create strong bonds is needed for the parts to perform as a structural system. Studies, both internal and external, have paved the way in understanding the best techniques which yield the best weld performance for Dow's PULSE* 830, (PC/ABS) resin. This report summarizes the work that has been done in this area.
