A Health and Usage Monitoring System is being introduced into the WAH-64 Apache (AH-MK1) helicopter. This paper describes the Phase-1 part of the implementation, which includes cockpit voice recording, flight data recording, engine power performance monitoring and engine, aircraft and APU usage monitoring. Growth provisions are provided to introduce Rotor Track and Balance, Transmission Vibration Monitoring, Engine Vibration Monitoring and Airframe Vibration Monitoring in future phases. The HUMS on the WAH-64 Apache is fully integrated with the aircraft onboard avionics system. The HUMS is fully configurable through an upload from the PCMCIA card. This paper presents the WAH-64 Apache Phase-1 design, installation, system integration testing, and aircraft ground and flight testing.
