- An outline of the “Volvo laboratory study of zinc-coated steel sheet” is presented. Fourteen different coatings were included in this study. They were all commercially available hot-dip zinc, electrolytic zinc and zinc-rich paint coatings. Not only pure zinc but also coatings alloyed with iron, aluminium and nickel were studied. One-, two- and three-layer coatings were also included. All fourteen coatings are metallographically characterized in this paper.
