- Fluorine containing polymers have long been known for their outstanding resistance to hostile environments. Of the many types of fluoropolymers available, fluorohydrocarbon elastomers are playing an increasingly important role in industry. A description of the structural types available, along with their properties and performance in simulated and actual service in the presence of heat and aggressive fluids is presented. The heat and fluid resistance of fluorohydrocarbon polymers are compared with those of nitrile, silicone, and polyacrylate rubbers. Finally, comments will be offered relative to emerging technology and a prediction of future trends.
