- The objective of this work is to identify and describe state-of-the-art computer modeling techniques that may be used to develop a component-based mathematical model of a vehicle's thermal management system. A complete system will be modeled consisting of various subsystems. The subsystems to be discussed include the airflow through the vehicle, the coolant system, the engine oil system, the automatic transmission fluid system and the engine block. The entire system will be a completed network of the connected and interacting subsystems and will computationally model a vehicle's thermal performance. This paper will discuss in detail a park idle warm-up of a vehicle on a ‘hot’ day and compare the analytical results to experimentation.
