The V-22 Osprey tiltrotor aircraft incorporates an onboard Vibration, Structural Life, and Engine Diagnostic (VSLED) System. The VSLED performs several Health and Usage Monitoring (HUMS) functions. One of the key components of the VSLED is the rotor track and balance (RTB) function, which provides the capability to acquire vibration data and calculate adjustments to reduce the proprotor induced 1/rev vibration. This paper provides an overview of the system components and a description of the algorithms used to support the RTB function for proprotor smoothing. The paper concludes with case studies and results from flight tests to illustrate the efficacy of the algorithms used for proprotor smoothing.
