Utility of the IMD HUMS in an Operational Setting on the UH-60L Blackhawk

The U.S. Army and the Goodrich Corporation are undertaking a battalion-level demonstration of the Goodrich Integrated Mechanical Diagnostics Health and Usage Monitoring System (IMD HUMS). The demonstration serves not only to evaluate unit and intermediate-level maintenance benefits, but serves as a demonstration of the utility of such a system to enable new fleet-wide vehicle management practices. This paper addresses the status of the demonstration, including lessons learned. Several key areas are discussed, including field retrofit installations, utility of the system in an operational environment, data transfer processes, field update process for corrections, program status, and correctness and effectiveness of new and existing functions. Also addressed are the processes for data transfer to a master database that will support the fleet management functions.
