One of the greatest advantages of simulation is the ability to reduce cost as well as risk in situations where simulation suitably emulates actual experimentation. As an example, significant cost and resource savings can be realized by evaluating typical flight test issues using man-in-the loop simulation. The Boeing Company in Mesa, Arizona is taking full advantage of simulation technology by developing symbology in our full mission simulator for the Air-to-Air Starstreak (ATASK) / AH-64A Apache Proof-of-Concept Phase II flight test. Simulation will reduce risk during flight test by ensuring that the newly developed symbology for the prototype missile is adequate for effective missile firing trials, and will thereby reduce the potential cost of additional flight tests if proved deficient.
