Ushering New Era of China's Road Transport by Constructing Trunk Road Backbone System and Major Transport Terminals

The first part of this paper puts forward the characteristic of road transport developed by stages and their quantitative indicators; as well as the features and trends at the two turning points between stages. The second part of the paper analyses the status quo of the necessities, i.e. road network, vehicle, and terminal, of road transport, discusses the layout of national trunk road backbone system and its role in the comprehensive transport system, as well as the function of major terminals. It is concluded that China' s road transport will enter the high stage by the year of 2020, i.e. road transport domination stage.
