Abstract
Content
The use of high-velocity air jets impinging normal to the surface is an important technological advance for heating and cooling purposes. This paper provides an engineering basis for the evaluation of high velocity hot air impingement for curing structural adhesives. Such a system provides an accurate and repeatable temperature profile for bonding thermoset composite parts. No “hot spots” and bond line read through are seen and adhesive is cured in less than 20 seconds. Heat transfer coefficients are presented. A model to predict accurate temperature profiles is developed.
