The U.S. Anny/Detroit Diesel Allison Ad vaoced Technology Demonstrator Engine (ATOE) program was initiated in February 1977 with the objectives being to detenni ne the achievable level of perfonnance, provide a validated engine technology base, and to provide a limited demon-stration of engine durability. The program has progressed through the i ni ti al test and demonstrati on phase and is now well into a critical component improvement program. This paper pre-sents a discussion of the engine mechanical design, installation interface, and demonstrated perfonnance. Modifications being made as a result of "lessons learned" in the test and demonstration phase are also discussed.
