Development of the indicial model is demonstrated in stages from idealised two and three dimensional cases through to the rotor application. By comparison with test and the results of Navier-Stokes and Euler calculations it is shown that the indicial model is capable of simulating the forces and moments that result from the relevant modes of forcing which include blade/vortex interaction throughout the appropriate Mach number range. The resultant efficiency of the aerodynamic calculation is shown to permit aeroelastic and aeroacoustic studies which are not yet possible using more conventional approaches. For application to active control studies the formulation is particularly appropriate for both linear and non linear response.
