Authors Abstract
Content
An important problem in the inlet tract dynamics of four-cycle, four cylinder IC engines is the cylinder to cylinder variation in the air-fuel ratio. In particular, the inlet runner geometry and the valve timing over the wide range of engine speeds encountered may have profound effects on the charge delivered to a particular cylinder. Using a two-dimensional compressible, hydrodynamic model, we present results from flow field calculations performed with the DELTA computer algorithm. Our aim is to assess the feasibility of using such techniques on inlet manifold design.
