In response to the continued industry trend towards downsized,
downsped gasoline and diesel engines, Eaton has continued to create
and optimize small displacement TVS® Superchargers for volumetric
and isentropic efficiency at low speeds. Such efficiency
improvements enable maximum engine torque at very low engine speeds
in both transient and steady state conditions. Development of the
V-Series has primarily focused on units in the 250 cc to 400 cc
displacement range, with applications both as a single boost
device, and as an element in a compound boost system. Key
parameters such as rotor length, diameter and helix angle, as well
as inlet and outlet port geometry have been optimized for
performance and NVH characteristics.
This paper will summarize the performance, packaging, and NVH of
V-Series TVS® superchargers compared to R-Series TVS® superchargers
and outline the end benefits that this can provide to customers.
V-Series has demonstrated a low speed volumetric efficiency
improvement of up to 18%.
