In pursuit of improvement in the ride comfort of automobiles, many chassis designers have developed new constructions. Of those, the performance of the shock absorber has great effects on that ride comfort. The motorization in Japan and elsewhere has promoted mass production of the automobile and the demand for low-cost automobile production.
In response to such market needs, the strut type suspension which eliminates components such as the king pin, began to replace conventional type front suspension of automobiles from around the 1960's in Japan (1)*. This paper describes the development progress of bush bearing materials for the shock absorber in the strut type suspension.
