This paper describes a new approach to a powerful, easy-to-use, portable development tool for automotive developments - a digital Real-Time Simulator with variable partitioning in pure and mixed simulation.
The Real-Time Simulator is designed to support ABS and various traction control developments and offers a great variety in simulating realistic environments for electronic control systems. Many types of road surfaces, vehicle characteristics, sensors and actuators can be simulated in real time.
This performance was made possible by introducing computer techniques which provided parallel processing. By use of transputers (new microprocessor based elements with special communication structures) it was possible to develop a flexible concept, which can be adapted by hardware and software to the corresponding tasks.
Besides the use as a development tool the simulator could be applied in the production process of systems and for system test purposes.
