Until the Arab oil embargo in 1973, the use of petroleum in the U.S. for transportation had been fairly predictable. Since that time, forecasts of oil consumption in the U.S. have varied widely. Most have been lowered dramatically during the past few years. This paper presents Chevron’s current projections of transportation fuel use for the U.S. and comparisons with several other countries bordering the Pacific Ocean.
