Abstract
Content
A tire model for matching to vehicle models for directional stability calculations will be presented. Steady-state forces and moments, reduction of cornering force as a result of the tire contact particles rebounding when load is removed from the wheel and approach behaviour of the tire will be calculated.
The model is based on a mechanical substitute system which incorporates longitudinal and lateral tread deflection, division of the contact surface into adhesion and slip areas, trapezoidal distribution of the wheel load across the tire contact length, and flexing and twisting of the casing.
