Authors Abstract
Content
AM-lite is a new magnesium alloy which offers opportunities for decorative, electroplated, and creep-resistant applications. AM-lite's wider liquidus to solidus range and lower melting point change the operating conditions for Thixomolding from those typical for AZ91. A Taguchi L18 DOE was run to assess the sensitivity of AM-lite to variables including fraction solids, die temperature, injection velocity, injection pressure, dwell time, ejection duration, type of die lubrication and die lubrication dilution. Results indicate that AM-lite is generally insensitive to typical Thixomolding factors.
