As the sophistication of enemy air defense systems continues to grow, helicopters performing lowlevel penetration missions behind enemy lines must improve their covertnep and reduce their detectability. Terrain Followingfferrain AvoidancefAmeat Avoidance (TF/TA² ) systems provide automatic aircraft guidance and control by using blended digital map data, threat location information, and aircraft sensor data to generate a real-time, three-dimensional flight path that minimizes altitude and exposure to enemy threat systems. The Texas Instruments Covert Penetration Radar system provides this TF/TA capability, with covert radar sensor operation. By controlling the radar in power, space, and time, radar RF signature and on-time are greatly reduced; the aircraft's probability of detection by enemy systems is significantly decreased. The CPR TF/TA² system can be installed on any helicopter.
