Authors Abstract
Content
Examinations of the temperature characteristics of commercial vehicle transmissions at different loading functions (duty cycles) are shown both mathematically and experimentally.
A detailed analysis of the losses which occur is contained in the theoretical section. Considerable sources of loss and heat are found to be power transmitting gears, immersion and bearing losses and losses due to shifting equipment. Following this, the heat dissipation is examined. Finally, a method of calculation is carried out using a given dynamic duty cycle, so that the resultant temperature cycle can be calculated.
In the experimental section, reports on test criteria and temperature measurements from the test bench and from test routes are given. Optimization possibilities, which can lower the temperature, are shown, such as the quantity of lubricating oil and cooling fins on the housing.
