This paper examines the status of important ITS technology developments at major automakers and key Tier One suppliers around the world.
Technology topics include navigation, telematics, vehicle dynamics control, parking aids, adaptive cruise control, lane departure warning, active safety systems, predictive safety systems (e.g., braking assist, collision warning, and collision avoidance), and vehicle-to-vehicle and vehicle-to-roadside communications.
Each company's ITS technical acumen is assessed and compared to its competitors. Leaders in each technical area are suggested.
The paper concludes with postulation of important future trends in automotive ITS.
