- The technological development of automatic distance warning systems has been such that they could be field tested under actual traffic conditions. Problem areas covered included (1) the effect of the warning system on traffic flow, (2) acceptance of a warning by the driver, (3) influence of the vehicle surroundings (road design, traffic situation) on the warning, and (4) influence of the warning signal on safety.
