Team Approach to Power Plant Design for Maximum Operational Effectiveness

A new concept of intimate customer participation evolved during the design, development, and test phases of the DC-10 propulsion system. This concept was resolved into the Airline Propulsion Team approach which took full advantage of the unique contributions to design available from the customer. The design of the DC-10 propulsion system incorporates customer contributions based on his experience and expertise in such areas as operation, maintenance, and overhaul.

This paper discusses the methods and operation of the Airline Propulsion Team as well as the immediate and projected benefits resulting from customer participation.
