An advanced single main rotor helicopter concept with active rotor technologies is examined to determine potential performance and efficiency improvements above a baseline helicopter concept. Performance improvement with active rotor technology considered within this paper is focused on individual blade control (IBC). The helicopter concept is sized to meet representative capabilities within the context of Joint Multi-Role. A parametric study of the weight, power, drag and fly-away cost of the active rotor technology is performed to illuminate trends and potential cross-over points within the design space. Detailed discussion of the active rotor technology is presented, including recommendations for further study.
