Sikorsky Aircraft Corporation Reliability & Maintainability Engineers, George L. Stathis and Cu V. Tran, are credited with the creation of the Supplier Teardown Analysis and Reporting System (STARS) which has been published under United States Patent Application 20070294052. STARS is an integrated data collection and tracking system for capturing detailed Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) repair information pertaining to component field removals / failures which have resulted an unscheduled maintenance action. The detailed repair data that is collected can assist Design Engineering and other multi-functional Engineering groups in understanding failure drivers; identify improvements, and formulating a comprehensive corrective action plan at the earliest practicable time. The STARS database is setup to document any available ancillary product information such as: the reported reason for removal, part number, serial number, purchase order number, repair order number, customer part number, detailed OEM evaluation information, failure analysis (if applicable), technical notes, type and number of detailed parts replaced (during repair), failure causes, etc. These records are completed and made available to Sikorsky personnel during the performance of the identified repair purchase order and electronically transmitted to the responsible Sikorsky reliability representative within 30 days after return of the refurbished component to Sikorsky.
